Ivy Tech China Blog – Day 6 –May 16, 2008
Welcome to the Ivy Tech China Blog for the trade delegation from Northwest Indiana –
Day 6 was as exciting as the other days as we left the city of Shenyang and traveled by bus to the city of Fuxin. The 3 hour ride was very enjoyable as we viewed the rolling hills & farmland of this northeastern province. As we left the bustling city of Shenyang we saw both modern farms and farms that were worked by mule & horses. We viewed many farmers planting their spring crops including rice that was being grown in flooded fields. As we neared Fuxin the hills grew into mountains. Fuxin is a city of 1.9 million residents and also has Liaoning Technical University within the city.
After lunch we traveled to Liaoning Technical University while other members of the delegation met with local business leaders. After our meeting at the university we visited many university buildings including the library & conference center. The campus was full of students who very friendly as to who we were and where we were from. Again the friendliness of the Chinese was shown by our reception group, the university & their students.
Dinner was as mentioned before, traditional Chinese, but the dinner in Fuxin was anything but ordinary. The menu included dishes such chicken feet that is considered a delicacy by the Chinese. The highlight of the evening was a Mongolian dance troupe that sang & dances in traditional Mongolian costumes. Near the end of the each of the program the entire delegation was presented with a silk shawl that is a Chinese cultural symbol that is meant for the wearer to have safety, health & long life. I continued to mention to the delegates of how day had its own special highlights throughout he week.

Tomorrow we’ll gather with numerous provincial, city & university dignitaries to witness the signing of the Sister Cities agreement & hopefully sign another international agreement for the college.
